Marisa N. Meneses

Marisa Meneses is a multidisciplinary artist who explores the emotional depths of personal and collective experience through photography, sculpture, and installation. Though she didn’t take her first photography class until her first year at Eastern Washington University, she quickly discovered the medium's ability to capture complex truths and intimate moments. Her early exposure to sculpture during her freshman year at Washington State University laid the foundation for a practice grounded in materiality, presence, and emotional resonance.

Marisa's work is deeply personal. Rooted in her own experiences with trauma, her art becomes a form of survival — a way to reclaim her story and refuse silence. She is especially drawn to the invisible struggles many face, such as mental health challenges and the aftermath of traumatic events. Through her creative process, she transforms pain into powerful visual narratives that demand to be seen and felt.“A picture is worth a thousand words” holds profound meaning for Marisa.

Whether through a haunting photograph or an evocative installation, she strives to create work that speaks — or stuns — in silence. She wants viewers to feel moved, unsettled, and awakened, carrying the impact of her art long after they leave. In this way, her story — and the stories of so many others — remain present, visible, and alive.
